Rawayana has officially kicked off this year’s NPR’s El Tiny series! Today (Sept. 19), the Venezuelan figureheads brought their feel-good, rhythmic music to the intimate setting, featuring a five-song set of recent singles and catchy hits.
“#eltiny • ¡Viva Venezuela 🇻🇪 en esta m¡3rd4 caballero!” the organization wrote on an Instagram post. “🔗 Tap the link in our bio to watch @rawayana’s Tiny Desk concert as we celebrate Latinx Heritage Month 🌟.”
The Caracas-originated band started their performance with “High (feat. Apache),” bringing immaculate groovy vibes to NPR. Apache also made a guest appearance to sing his throwback Trippy Carribean (2016) feature live. Afterward, the group continued with “Funky Fiesta,” the rhythmic and playful bilingual track off the aforementioned album. Their newer single, “Feriado,” is also part of their set. They also featured new songs “Merengue Pa’ Cintura” and “Dame Un Break,” part of their forthcoming album, ¿Quién trae las cornetas? due on Sept. 21. Overall, each group member transcended infectious high energy and delivered a full-on party during NPR’s working hours.
Up next, Rawayana is set to embark on their North American tour this fall. They are hitting major cities like Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and many more during the following two months. Moreover, the band just released their newest single, “Brindo,” showing a more sentimental side of the four-piece outfit.
On the other hand, NPR’s El Tiny desk series will continue celebrating Our Heritage Month all month long (Sept. 15 to Oct. 15). This year’s upcoming segments will feature genre-bending artists like Becky G, DannyLux, Ivy Queen, and Villano Antillano. Additional artists include Alex Cuba and J Noa. Past participants include Tokischa, Carla Morrison, and Omar Apollo, among other Latine talent.
