Earlier this summer, Ángela Aguilar – the 15-year-old singer and daughter of Mexican legend Pepe Aguilar – revealed that Lady Gaga had given her permission to cover the Oscar-winning track “Shallow” from A Star Is Born.

According to Aguilar, she wanted to sing “Shallow” for a showcase performance premiering today on the Grammy’s YouTube channel. But first, she needed to get the OK from Lady Gaga herself. The pop star had been in touch with Aguilar’s team, and she signaled that she was supportive of the rising singer taking on the iconic hit and urged her to practice. “I was like, ‘Madre mia, I’m going to die,’” Aguilar told Ventaneando.

Now, the performance is finally here. If Aguilar was still nervous about the cover, you can hardly tell. She sounds at ease as she belts out the soaring chorus over a piano. It’s a different sound for Aguilar, marking one of the first times we’ve heard her play piano and sing in English at the same time. We have a feeling that Lady Gaga would be proud.
