Gunsal Moreno, aka beGun, continues to travel the world, both physically and through his music. He’s wrapping up his brief South American tour, which included dates at all of the editions of Sónar Festival‘s Latin American takeover, save for São Paulo. Now he’s gearing up for the release of his fourth EP, titled Dora. Like its predecessors, it is conceptually centered on a specific location (this time it’s Africa), and features collaborations from people like Ela Minus, Berg, Blackbird Blackbird, and Applescal.
Its first single, “Dora (Chapter IV),” sounds like signature beGun: soaring synths, pitch shifted vocal samples, ethereal atmospheres, and deep and beautifully detailed beat arrangement. The song is accompanied by a stunning music video, where we meet the namesake of the single. A group of women who appear to be sex workers stand on an empty street, as men approach them in different vehicles. The swirling city lights shower them, and the narrative turns its focus on one particular woman. The rest of the clip flashes mesmerizing and intimate shots of the woman, filtered in black and red and embellished with playful brushes of light and shadow. The video and song have an inexplicably moving effect, a feeling that is now deeply intertwined with beGun’s body of work.
