Meet the new Bryant Myers in the video for “Tanta Falta,” a PG-13 heartthrob who drinks red wine, entwining fingers with a blonde in the back of a pick-up. A carefree ukulele strums as the raspy-voiced singer — who just four months ago was rescued from a kidnapping attempt — makes his case for a sweet reunion with his girl.
Myers’ turn to a poppier sound have may come as a surprise to fans after his start showcasing thick-toned trap dynamics, but after the success of relatively softer singles like “Triste” with Bad Bunny and the romantic selections off of debut album La Oscuridad, they may have gotten used to the shift in tone. The Puerto Rican artist has been open in recent interviews about the fact that his team felt it was time to “expand” his sound, even citing recent pop moves by fellow urbano artists Wisin & Yandel as having served as inspiration for the strategy (Come to think of it, which urbano artist hasn’t turned in a Technicolor love song this year?).
We reached out to Myers for a little more explication on the tender track — premiering today on Remezcla — and he suggested that perhaps the radio-ready sound, produced by dembow legend Cromo X, is a nod to a certain sector of his public. “We are ready to hit the charts with this brand new song,” the singer told Remezcla. “We created this song thinking of my fans, because I am infinitely grateful for them. This song is especially for you and I hope you all can enjoy it.”
