You don’t have to dig too deep into Chicano Batman’s catalog to find gorgeous melodies and tender emotions, but this has never been as evident as it is on these two newly released songs with Mexican indie star Caloncho. This two-song EP includes some of the sweetest melodies both artists have offered us so far, as well as a collaboration some might have not seen coming.

Chicano Batman and Caloncho linked up in January 2018 at Red Bull Studios in Los Angeles after five years of plotting a collaboration together. The idea was to record a cover of “Corazón De Roca,” a Mexican bolero from the 1970s originally created by Los Fresno. They also tracked an original number called “Háblame,” a fast-paced soul number with lyrics inspired and written for Caloncho’s daughter, who was just born.

“Háblame” also arrives with a brand new video, which was inspired by the story of immigrant children as they make their way to the U.S. to seek asylum and reunite with family. The vintage-inspired animated video was directed by Edgar Fernández. Fittingly, a portion of the proceeds from the EP will go to KIND Organization, which provides legal counsel to children who immigrate alone. It’s hard to argue against this union isn’t a match made in heaven.

Fans will also be happy to learn that Chicano Batman will be opening for Vampire Weekend for the June dates of their tour.
