Chicago psych rock quartet Divino Niño have dropped a brand new single called “Coca-Cola” as a preview of their upcoming album Foam, which is shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated shoegaze records of 2019.

Founded by illustrator Camilo Medina and Javier Forero (who both knew each other when they were kids in Bogotá and met years later when their families moved to Miami), as well as Guillermo Rodríguez and Pierce Codina, Divino Niño have crafted a distinctive musical approach for “Coca-Cola.” Strolling at a moderate tempo, the chillwave-infused track dabbles in shoegazy guitars and strong hooks. Psychedelic production and detailed arrangements lift the song up, particularly when the slide guitar enters the mix. In a press release, Camilo Medina said the track emerged out of job-related ennui. “At the time, I was working as a designer at an ad agency, getting a dream salary and working with great people. I thought that’s what I wanted to do but I felt like I was wasting my time making things I felt no connection with. Life was feeling flat at the time, so part of the song is me daydreaming of having a way cooler life.”

“Coca-Cola” is the second song we’ve heard from Foam, after the band shared the title track back in January. Foam will also feature some familiar faces from the Chicago scene; Knox Fortune collaborators and members of Twin Peaks and Mild High Club were all involved in the recording and production of the album.

Foam will drop on June 21 through Winspear Records. Stream “Coca-Cola” below:
