The lucky few of you who acquired El Guincho‘s HiperAsia in the form of NFC-enabled bracelets late last year must be already familiar with his song “Comix.” But for the rest of us, this is the Canarian producer’s brand new single, following previously released songs “(Con un) Rotu Seco” and “Mis Hits,” and featuring none other than Spanish rap extraordinaire Mala Rodríguez.
We’ve always known Pablo Díaz-Reixa is a hip-hop fan, but we had never heard him embrace the genre this brazenly. The song is inspired by Chinese bazaars in Madrid, where he now resides, and features El Guincho channeling his best rap persona on top of an electropop hip-hop beat, full of production twists and turns that are sometimes disruptive but always effective. La Mala’s verse is the icing on the cake, sweetly balancing between rapping and singing in her Andalusian accent. The vocals are linear, without a discernible structure or chorus, and they are heavily processed the same way they are on the other songs he’s shared so far, so this could be a running theme throughout the album.
HiperAsia is out digitally on February 12 and physically on March 11, through Nacional Records.
