Colombian artist and former Balancer member Gabriela Jimeno is dead set on seducing listeners with her stunning brand of minimalistic indie pop, which she sings as Ela Minus. She’s already shared a track from her First Words EP called “Kiddo,” which she produced along with Astro‘s Andrés Nusser. At the end of 2015, she also dropped a cute little gift called “Smile.”
“Volcán,” Ela Minus’ new single, is a little different from the childlike vocals and lilting beats we’ve previously heard from her. The track is deliciously austere, with bright synth fills popping up in front of growling bass notes, producing a whimsical and playful effect. The lyrics invite us to dance like there’s lava under our feet, which is a charming way of saying we should have fun because life is too short. When the vocal harmonies kick in, hearts will instantly melt.
Ela Minus’ Grow EP is out March 4. She’s got a busy month ahead of her, as she is set to perform at Estereo Picnic in Bogotá, Festival Nrmal in Mexico City, and SXSW in Austin in March.
