Gabriel Garzón-Montano Dances His Way Into Our Hearts in the Abstract “Crawl” Video

Just days before his debut album Jardín drops, Gabriel Garzón-Montano has released the video for “Crawl,” a song he shared earlier this month and described as “babies making babies.”

The video itself is less provocative than the carnal vibe of the track, but it’s still stamped with Garzón-Montano’s signature coolness. Santiago Carrasquilla, a Colombian filmmaker with legit animation and design chops, directed the clip, which finds GGM bouncing his way around an empty space, accompanied only by a sprinkling of animated geometric figures that twist and bend along with him (You can forget all about Drake’s moves in “Hotline Bling,” friends).

It’s four minutes of avant-garde playfulness that punctuate the song’s addictively catchy chorus and retro energy. Not to mention the fact that it oozes sex (check the YouTube comments for proof). The colorful abstractions that Garzón-Montano glides by come from Delcan & Company, a New York-based studio with a penchant for unexpected, somewhat whimsical designs. Garzón-Montano only pops back to reality in the final minutes of the video to plink out the last chords of the track on his keyboard. It’s deconstructed, upbeat, and modern, and they’re helping us get a sense of the creative headspace Garzón-Montano is in on his newest effort.

Jardín is out via Stone Throw Records on January 27, and Garzón-Montano will celebrate the release at Brooklyn’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg the day before. He’s currently preparing for a UK/EU tour this February — the dates are below.
