Three Creepy Clowns Trip Balls in Mama Testa’s “Gimme My Drvgs” Video

It’s very hard, if not impossible, to read the title of Mama Testa‘s latest track and think it’s going to be a sweet and harmless ride. “Gimme My Drvgz” is a collaboration with Jack’ie Lo. It’s the first preview off Mama Testa’s brand new album Next Era Dancefloor, via Austin-based imprint #FEELINGS, home of like-minded producers such as Ynfynyt Scroll, Rabit, and leader Ben Aqua. Mama Testa is known for his restless mind and nervous exploration of multiple genres, as he does masterfully here. The song is a schizophrenic rave number that feasts on hard techno elements and wields vocal samples like cumbia sonideros do – a listening experience that’s overwhelming and disturbing, but also exhilarating and fun.

Méndez wears two hats this time around, since he also directed the song’s music video. It stars a trio of street clowns, like the ones that hang out at traffic lights in Mexico City – just a lot creepier. They entertain drivers for spare change, just to buy themselves some nose candy from their trusty dealer, played by none other than Siete Catorce. Things go downhill from there. The clowns start tripping and partying in a foggy, abandoned apartment, like maniac rave Juggalos, while a frenetic beat and crunchy synths soundtrack the chaos. Then they fade into the night, only to do it all over again the morning after.

Gimme My Drvgz” is now available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and other major streaming platforms.
