Somewhere in the hills of Los Angeles, Miguel is still riding high from the success of his colorful and heart-melting performance of “Remember Me” with Natalia Lafourcade and Gael García Bernal at the Academy Awards. Now the Blaxican singer has another reason to celebrate: he’s just released a Spanish-language version of “Sky Walker,” the bubbly Travis Scott collab and ode to joy that was War & Leisure‘s lead single.
This take on “Sky Walker” is mostly a free-flowing interpretation of the lyrics in Spanish, but the track shows off Miguel’s knack for cheeky couplets, with choice lyrics like, “aunque es vegana, quiere algo carnal.”
“Sky Walker” isn’t the first time we get a taste of Miguel en español; last year’s War & Leisure featured Kali Uchis collab “Caramelo Duro,” a warbling and groovy triumph. Plus, on his virtuosic 2015 album Wildheart, the hopeless romantic confronted his Latinidad for the first time, and he’s been showcasing sleek sarape looks over the past few years. Last June, Miguel dove deeper into his Mexican roots, visiting his family in Zamora, Michoacán for the first time for an episode of Viceland’s Earthworks series.
