Stream Empress Of’s Spanish-Language “Agua Agua” and Peep Her New Video

I’ve had an intense music/style/everything crush on Lorely Rodriguez since she released her debut EP and have been waiting for some new music for a minute. Well, good news for us: the Empress Of drought is officially over as she’s just released her trippy video for her latest song “Water, Water” AND we got our hands on her release of the Spanish version, “Agua, Agua.” As a first generation Latina to Honduran parents, Empress Of has had just as many Spanish language tracks on her EPs as English tracks, saying she wants to make music that her mother could sing back to her and I respect her for wanting to pay homage to her roots.

“Agua, Agua,” is a little more luscious than the original because Spanish just flows like water, let’s be real. Given that the track was written while Rodriguez was on a retreat in Mexico, the title could’ve been a cry for hydration after too many shots of tequila or about moments when you’re too stoned at the beach and overwhelmed at the immensity of the ocean because we’ve all been there. Whatever the inspiration, “Agua, Agua” is refreshing and wild and just enough to quench us until the release of her debut album later this summer.
