Yelram Selectah’s Ozuna Remix Will Give You Serious Mal de Amores

Tijuana producer Yelram Selectah’s city continues to gather by the thousands for protests against President Peña-Nieto’s horrifically timed gasolinazo that sent consumer fuel prices soaring. This weekend marked the third time tijuanenses shut down southbound traffic at San Ysidro, the TJ-San Diego border crossing that is considered one of the world’s busiest.

Selectah (aka Antonio Apodaca) is well-known for transforming diverse rhythms to create new dimensions of party primer. The cumbia and juke savant is not one to let rampant political dissent pause his quest to make fire remixes, and continues to gift us with disruptive musical interventions to match our disrupted times.

Just one week after the release of Selectah’s cumbia flex on Migos’ beloved “Bad and Boujee,” the producer is dropping this reverb-heavy take on Puerto Rican reggaetonero Ozuna’s tale of a woman gone cold to romance. The “No Quiere Enamorarse” revamp adds textura pesada to Ozuna’s romantiqueo, cutting up and layering the chorus to build a darker echo around anxious metallic notes.

The reframing allows for alternate meanings in the story of an impassive, jaded muse with a love for Chanel and NSA hookups. Get into these verses: “Que ha pasado mucho mal de amores y su vida nadie la controla, sabe…” TBH, who among us isn’t in danger of a corazón cerrado in 2017?
