Lionel Messi is one win away from his first-ever World Cup title. Argentina won its semifinal match over Croatia 3-0 on Tuesday (December 13) and will now play in the 2022 World Cup Finals against the winner of France vs. Morocco.

Argentina dominated the match from start to finish. The scoring began when Messi made a penalty shot, making it 1-0. Messi became the highest goal scorer for Argentina in World Cup history (11 goals).

Five minutes later, Julián Álvarez made the score 2-0 when he went full distance from midfield to score as Argentine fans inside Lusail Stadium in Qatar erupted.

In the second half, Messi stepped up again to deliver an incredible assist to Álvarez and basically lock up the victory for Argentina.

“I feel many things, it’s very exciting to see all this,” Messi said after the match. “Seeing the people, the family throughout the World Cup was something incredible. We’re going for the last game, which was what we wanted.”

No matter which country you were rooting for at the start of the World Cup, there are many fútbol fans who wouldn’t mind seeing Messi winning, especially since this will be his final World Cup tournament.

Is Messi really the Greatest of All Time? If he wins a World Cup, it might not be arguable anymore.

Honestly, is there anything the legend can’t do?

For most Messi fans, it just might be true love.

While everyone is talking about Messi, let’s not forget the rest of the team. In the semifinals match, Álvarez played like a god, too.

Congrats to Croatia for getting as far, but the elimination memes come for us all.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Argentina was still on the field celebrating. Their victory was that impressive.

Wherever you are in the world, if you’re not watching the World Cup (even if you’re not a fútbol fan), you’re missing out.

The World Cup Finals take place on December 18, 2022.
