Chicharito’s Choice Is In: He’s Headed to the 2016 Olympics

Copa Centenario or Rio 2016 Olympics? Which would you choose if you were Javier “Chicharito” Hernández?

It appears as though Chicharito’s choice is in: according to ESPN Deportes, the Bayer Leverkusen crack wants to be one of the three refuerzos called upon by Raúl Gutiérrez in Rio.

Chicharito’s decision comes after being sidelined during Mexico’s gold-medal campaign at London 2012 (another case of Sir Alex screwing Chichadios over or well-needed repose?), so I suppose it’s only natural that he wants a chance to suit up and defend the title won at Wembley vs. Brazil. Still, it seems a bit strange given the star power of the historic Centenario event.

The resolution isn’t Chicharito’s alone, of course – Bayer Leverkusen gets its say too, even more so since Juan Carlos Osorio announced that he would leave it up to the Mexican international and his club to come to an agreement. Olympic participation would mean losing a portion of the preseason, but if it’s enough to keep the goalscorer happy and content, I’m more than positive that his Bundesliga club won’t make too much of a fuss.

Is this the wrong decision? Will you be missing Chicharito in action in the U.S. this summer? Hit us up in the comments section.
