Scratch what I said about Colombia and Ecuador gearing up to host the Copa América Centenario. Reports have been flying in from various South American news outlets – primarily via Argentine press and social media – stating that the highly-anticipated tournament will probably be played in…Mexico!

The news comes after a CONMEBOL Executive Committee meeting held at the confederation’s headquarters in Panama.

So, it looks like there’s still a good chance that this tournament – originally scheduled to be played in the U.S. in 2016 – will be the first Copa América hosted outside of South America. The expanded competition will include 10 teams from CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF. Although we’re still waiting for an official confirmation, reports late last night stated that both confederations will make a decision at a meeting set to take place in Mexico late next week.

Good idea? Bad? Can Mexico take the trophy at home? Sound off in the comments.
