Besides the exciting competition that played out on the field during Super Bowl LVII this past Sunday (February 12), there were also some amazing feats of athleticism on display during one of the game’s commercial breaks. And yes, we’re talking about Diana Flores.
The 25-year-old quarterback of Mexico’s world-champion women’s national flag football team was featured in an unforgettable TV spot. In the commercial, Flores is making a mad dash across the city as everyone she encounters attempts to capture one of the flags hooked onto a belt around her waist. The Super Bowl ad is easily one of the best of the year.
As great as the commercial is, Flores didn’t tell her family all that it entailed or that she was the star of the show. Instead, she decided to surprise her mother, father, and sister by revealing the commercial to them while the NFL captured the moment on video.

In the video, Flores escorts her family to a screening room where her mother is asked what she knows about the commercial that her daughter is in. Flores’ mother admits that she doesn’t know much but that her heart feels like it’s going to explode from the excitement and anticipation.
The commercial starts with Flores being interviewed by NFL sideline reporter Erin Andrews, who is the first to try to steal her flag. Flores’ father begins to laugh hysterically as she jukes her way past Andrews, up the stadium tunnel, and through the parking lot where dozens of others grab for the flag unsuccessfully. Flores’ mother puts her hand to her chest when the commercial cuts to her daughter entering her home where her TV mom welcomes her, but also tries to steal her flags. Flores’ father continues to deliver a hearty laugh throughout.
The tagline at the end of the commercial reads: “To the women pushing football forward, we can’t wait to see where you take this game.” Once the ad is over, the tears immediately start flowing for everyone. “You told me that you’d be in it, not that you’d be the star,” Flores’ mother says with her eyes welling up.
Her family then stands up and each of them gives her a big hug. Her father calls her “my princess” and says, “You are powerful.”
He adds: “Imagine the impact. That’s what you really have … and now it is reflected in something big. It makes me very proud.”
Flores’ sister, who is also overcome with emotion, then explains what the commercial means to her and what it will mean to the countless young women and girls in the world who love playing sports.
“When I see it, it makes me smile,” she said as she wiped away tears. “And with that last message, it just fills my heart because I understand. It’s just so beautiful.”
