Oakland Police Have Released Surveillance Image of Suspect in Muralist Antonio Ramos’ Death

Less than a week after 27-year-old Oakland artist Antonio Ramos was gunned down while painting an anti-violence mural, other artists have stepped in to finish what he began. Yesterday, Oakland Superheroes Mural Project posted images of the underpass mural that they said would be dedicated to Ramos. The streets were still lined with flowers and candles dedicated to the young artist, who had spent three years of his life educating children about violence through art.

On the opposite side of the mural, butcher paper was set up so that people could write messages to Ramos. The Oakland Superheroes are also asking people to stop by and show their support. “For the next two weeks, stop by to show your support and belief in this project! Art has the power to bring beauty, hope and transformation into our communities,” they said.

Oakland police are also asking for help. On Monday, they released an image of the person of interest, who is described as being about 6 feet tall and being in his 20s. After shooting Ramos, the suspect fled on foot, according to ABC.
