As Relief Efforts in Texas Struggle to Keep Up, These Heroic Tejano Volunteers Are Saving Lives

With rescue efforts currently underway in Houston and other cities hit by Hurricane Harvey, people around the country are contributing in a multitude of ways. Some have compiled lists of organization helping with recovery efforts. Others are tweeting or retweeting the addresses of people who are in need of rescuing. And still others are taking their boats or vehicles and heading out onto the flooded streets to assist first responders. According to the Associated Press, private boat owners, in particular, drove in the heavy rain looking for those trapped in their homes.

Rescue volunteer Clint Wingar told the AP, “You just gotta look out for everybody. It’s overwhelming the amount of rain. It’s too much for the first responders, you know, they need help.” Wingar isn’t the only one who deserves recognition for his bravery and heroism, so we’ve compiled a list of Latinos who have put their lives on the line to aid those in need:
