Starring in Ex Machina, Annihilation and the latest Star Wars trilogy alone would have cemented Oscar Isaac in the sci-fi hall of fame. But the Guatemalan actor has never been one to rest on his laurels. A few months after we all bid goodbye to his dashing Poe Dameron, he’s back in the spotlight with a new character that is sure to further enshrine him in the eyes geeks all over the world. For there is no more anticipated 2020 sci-fi flick than Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune adaptation.

Based on the sprawling 1965 novel by the same name, this epic saga is set in a distant future that follows Paul Atreides, a brilliant young hero (played by Timothée Chalamet) who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence — a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential — only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Joining Chalamet is a stellar A-list roster of actors which includes Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa. But in the best bit of family casting we’ve seen in a while, the Blade Runner 2049 director has cast Oscar Isaac as Chalamet’s father. It’s clear that great hair runs in the family.

Ahead of its December release, Warner Bros. has released a number of still images that give a look at this desert-set tale and the low-tech futuristic costumes that will mark this planned two-part film adaptation. And we have to say, Isaac is giving us the kind of smolder that make us want to see his Duke Leto Atreides in action.

Words don’t do him justice. Behold Isaac’s magnificent beard in all its glory below.

Dune arrives in theaters on December 18, 2020.
