In December last year, El Monte trio The Red Pears dropped the follow-up to their 2018 album For Today, For Tomorrow, For What Is, For What Could’ve Been, a five-track EP called Alicia. While retaining their essence, on Alicia they toned down their beachy take on rock ‘n’ roll, beefed up their sound, and dove deeper into their feelings, as their new single “Shores” perfectly exemplifies.

“Shores” is a raw ballad in a 6/8 time signature where singer Henry Vargas pours his soul in a goosebumps-inducing delivery, as he succumbs to the uncertainty of everlasting love and the possibility of heartache.

For “Shores”’ new music video, exclusively premiered here in Remezcla, The Red Pears tapped local filmmaker Anthony Solorzano, who gave the song the dramatic imagery it needed to turn on the waterworks. Here, we follow the lead actress through the stages of heartbreak. From her collapse after a day of holding back tears at work to the blissful final moment of acceptance, the video is as moving as you might expect, and on top of that, it’s presented in black and white.

About the video and his inspiration, Solorzano says, “[The song] has this dramatic weight, especially in those moments when the song crescendos as Henry starts wailing and the drums and guitars kick in. It’s cathartic. It elevates the melancholy of the song to an intense state where your sadness can no longer be contained and the only thing left is to cry your eyes out.”

Watch the video below and see these words come to life.

‘Alicia’ is out now on Cosmica Records.
