The sports world was in shock late last year when legendary Argentine fútbol star Diego Maradona died at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack. The tributes came pouring in from around the world for a player who is widely considered one of the best to ever take the field.

Now, the tribute continues with the upcoming original TV series Maradona: Blessed Dream from Amazon Prime. The biopic series will follow the accomplishments and challenges that El Pibe de Oro had to face during his globetrotting career and personal life, including his battle with drugs and alcohol.

In the series, Maradona is portrayed by Argentine actor Nicolás Goldschmidt (TV’s Supermax) and follows him from his humble beginnings in the town of Fiorito, Argentina, to his role in leading his national team to a victory in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The series, which was filmed on location in Argentina, Spain, Italy, Uruguay and Mexico, is a total of 10 episodes with each episode lasting an hour.

In the first teaser trailer for the series, quick shots of Goldschmidt’s Maradona show the character meeting with the press, making an entrance while wearing a white fur coat and getting chased by fans around town. We then see him strolling down a tunnel toward the field wearing his iconic No. 10 jersey.

Maradona walks like a man with a purpose. His silhouette steps out of the light like a deity with unlimited power. Maybe that’s why he was also known to his admirers as D10S. To many, he was God-like.

Maradona: Blessed Dream will premiere on Amazon Prime later this year.
