The Linda Lindas are not your average mostly-teenage group of girls. In fact, they may be at the forefront of the next big social movement in music. Half Latinx and half Asian, The Linda Lindas are made up of 10-year-old drummer Mila, 13-year-old Eloise, 14-year-old Lucia, and Bella, the oldest of the group who is 16. Together, the young ladies make a sound that is part punk, part power-pop, and all raw talented sound.

One of their songs “Racist Sexist Boy” went viral when the pint-sized punk rockers kicked off The Los Angeles Public Library’s AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. That right there should tell you everything you need to know about the quratet, rocking punk music to the high heavens in a library. It doesn’t get much more rock n’ roll than that. Add to that, a tweet from Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and posts from Questlove and Awkwafina and the girls are ripe for stardom.

Between both the band and the LA Public Library posting the live performance, it has racked up almost two million views.

“A little while before we went into lockdown, a boy came up to me in my class and said that his dad told him to stay away from Chinese people,” Mila said to introduce “Racist Sexist Boy.” After I told him that I was Chinese, he backed away from me. Eloise and I wrote this song based on that experience.”

The Linda Lindas are made up of cousins Lucia, Mila, Eloise, along with close friend Bella who got their big break when they opened up for Bikini Kill at the Hollywood Palladium. Actress Amy Poehler was at that show and cast the ladies in her Netflix movie Moxie. The band would end up recording two songs for the movie.

Other songs in the band’s catalogue cover social issues such as voting and ending homelessness. Up next, The Linda Lindas hope to perform live more often, and of course record more new music. Their current self-titled EP is out now.

¡Que lindas!
