In a rare showing of public unity on Monday (April 17), the internet seems to fully agree on how hilarious it is that Rep. George Santos (R-NY) has announced his bid for reelection in 2024.

We jest (sort of), but you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks it’s a good idea that the embattled congressman, who has been proven to be a pathological liar since he was elected to the House last year, believes he could reclaim his seat now that all his lies have been exposed and he is under countless investigations.

Santos made no mention of the legal and ethical issues he is currently facing in his official statement to run for office again only saying, “We need a fighter who knows the district and can serve the people fearlessly.”

Santos has also ignored calls from both Democrats and Republicans demanding him to resign from office. In a poll taken earlier this year, 78% of voters in his district want him to step down (89% of Democrats, 72% of independents/others and 71% of Republicans). Then, of course, there’s the consensus from the people on social media who used Santos’ recent announcement to entertain the masses.

Some took the opportunity to sarcastically add to Santos’ ever-growing resume. Way to go, George Santos.

At least one fellow congressman used the opportunity to mockingly endorse Santos’ reelection bid.

Other colleagues were ready to predict what they believe is the inevitable outcome if Santos’ actually runs for reelection.

Some joked that maybe Santos’ announcement is just another lie. Would anyone be surprised?

Most couldn’t hold back their laughter at the fact that someone could be so shameless.

We’ll have to wait and see how the rest of George Santos’ term pans out, but if it’s anything like the first three months, it’s sure to be a very bumpy ride.
