Halloween is around the corner, and there are many franchises to choose from, whether it be costumes from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice or the ever-present realm of superheroes. But even though they may not get the same amount of fanfare as others, there are dozens of Latina superheroes that are perfect for the Halloween season.

Whether from Marvel Comics, DC Comics or anywhere in between, these Latina superheroes are iconic for a reason, and that’s partly because of the fans and their unending love for their adventures, powers, or their background. So taking on the mantle of these superheroes, even for Halloween, is a great way to make a fun impression and introduce others to a hero or two they might not know about.

Note: Looking for more superhero costume ideas? We’ve got you covered with 10 Latino superheroes to dress up as this Halloween!

1

America Chavez

Created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta, America Chavez is a powerhouse heroine with super strength and the ability to open star portals to other dimensions; she also oozes style, often reppin red, white and blue. Her more urban style is perfect for anyone who needs a costume on the fly, whether it be the comic version or her live-action appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where she is played by Xochitl Gomez.

2

Anya Corazón

Created by Joe Quesada, Fiona Avery, and Mark Brooks, Anya Corazón is part of the Spider-Man family as both the hero Araña and Spider-Girl. As Araña, her costume is more street clothes, goggles and a fun backpack, whereas her Spider-Girl suit is more traditionally Spider-Man with a black and white body suit, akin to what Isabela Merced wore in Madame Web.

3

White Tiger (Angela Del Toro and Ava Ayala)

The first Puerto Rican superhero created by Bill Mantlo and George Pérez, White Tiger is a legacy character later taken up by two women, Angela Del Toro and Ava Ayala. In Ava’s case, her outfit is a white body suit and black stripes, with the jade tiger pendant around her neck. And though Angela’s is similar, her face is more exposed. Though it may take some DIY, both iterations are sure to be a hit at the next Halloween party.

4

Firebird

Created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema, Bonita Juarez aka Firebird is a wildly powerful hero that uses fire and flight to protect the American Southwest. Though the Mexican-American is a lesser-known Marvel hero, her costume is perfectly crafted, and one that perfectly captures her fiery persona. In more recent iterations of Firebird, she wears a cross with a yellow and red outfit with distinct Native American influences.

5

Magma

Created by Chris Claremont, Sal Buscema, and Bob McLeod, Amara Aquila aka Magma, is a Brazil native with the ability to manipulate tectonic plates and magma, hence the name and fiery look. Though she’s changed her costume more than once, her black and red New Mutants look has been a mainstay. What’s great is this could allow someone to paint their face and color their hair in a way to capture her magma form, making for a fun and creative costume.

6

Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz)

Created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver, Jessica Cruz is the next in a long line of Green Lanterns. Like many others, her power comes from the power ring that can create anything she imagines. Her uniform may look similar to many others but what makes her standout is the lantern symbol over her eye. Though this look could be achieved with a morph suit, there’s an option to get more creative and turn it into an even cooler costume.

7

Fire

Created by E. Nelson Bridwell and Ramona Fradon, Beatriz da Costa, aka Fire, has abilities tied to her namesake. While her green fire is a standout look as is, it could be hard to achieve as a costume. Thankfully, the character has had many other, more achievable looks that add both style and distinction; most famously her green pants, and jacket combo.

8

Hawkgirl (Kendra Saunders)

Created by James Robinson, David S. Goyer, and Stephen Sadowski, Kendra Saunders Hawkgirl is another legacy character who took on an identity of her own. Her costume is a perfect blend of sportswear and warrior and while the wings may be the hard part, the rest of her costume could be both a fun and comfortable way to enjoy Halloween, especially leading up to Isabela Merced’s appearance as the heroine in James Gunn’s Superman.

9

The Question (Renee Montoya)

Created by Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, and Mitch Brian, Renee Montoya was a Gotham City Detective who carried on the persona of The Question to continue her investigative work. She’s a resourceful and skilled heroine, and her costume often includes streetwear, a fedora and the iconic faceless mask. Though it’s a strange costume, it’s both comfortable and could easily have people asking The Question questions of their own.

10

Engineer

Created by Warren Ellis and Tom Raney, Angela Spica aka Engineer, is a unique character in that she’s a hero who takes things too far. Ironically, her metallic look played a big part in her villainous turn. While her costume likely won’t turn anyone into a villain, it’s an affordable and fun way to be a unique superhero for Halloween, especially with her character appearing in James Gunn’s Superman as played by María Gabriela de Faría Chacón.
