After over two decades, the end of a Puerto Rican reggaeton legend is over. On Nov. 13, Zion & Lennox announced their disbandment, citing that Zion is pursuing his solo career.

“With over 20 years of experience in urban music and a successful career that has transcended borders, Zion, recognized as one of the most iconic voices of the genre, officially announces his decision to disengage from his musical duo with Lennox,” the official statement said. “This decision comes after a careful evaluation of Zion’s professional and personal interests at the beginning of 2024, but due to recent publications that have affected the public and professional perception of the joint brand, we have decided to share the news with the public.”

The statement says they made this decision to protect the brand so Zion can focus on his future projects, including the upcoming release of The Perfect Melody II. It also reiterates that the separation is “strictly professional” with no personal conflict beyond priorities as individual artists.

In a following post, Zion wrote: “Forever grateful to El Gordo @lennox and everyone who supported us, thank you for being part of our trajectory during all these years. To our crew and staff, colleagues and our audience, without you it wouldn’t have been possible. Next chapter coming soon.” The post featured a farewell video compilation of the successful reggaeton duo performing and mingling with their fans.

Fans are sharing their sentiments about the news. An X user wrote: “It’s a shame that a duo as powerful and successful as Zion and Lennox, is over. Life is like that, let’s hope they both do well as solo artists, what great songs they leave in history!”

Zion & Lennox – composed by Félix Ortiz and Gabriel Pizarro – defined 2000s reggaeton. They are known for their popular hits like “Otra Vez” with J Balvin, “Tu Príncipe” with Daddy Yankee, and “Yo Voy” with Daddy Yankee, among many others.
