Toñita’s is asking for help.

New York’s famous Puerto Rican landmark and ultimate social club is gearing up to celebrate Maria Antonia Cay for her life-long accomplishments – but they are asking for financial assistance to make it all possible.

“Now it is our turn to support ✊🏽 Toñita has given her life for the community.
Today, with Toñita Fest, we honor her legacy… and respond with the same love,” the establishment in partnership with La Gesta Inc. wrote in Spanish online. “We already have some support, but we still need to cover key costs to give Toñita the rumba she deserves.”

To make Toñita Fest possible, the festival’s production team, La Gesta Inc., is asking for financial support through a GoFundMe. The page says that the funds will go towards the festival’s cultural programming and live performances, the cost of the live production and logistics, to preserve the community space, and to honor Toñita’s life’s work through the celebration. Its goal is to reach $4k.

“For over 50 years, Toñita has poured her heart into the club, which regulars affectionately call ‘Toñita’s.’ It’s more than a place for $3 beers, music, and dancing. It’s a home away from home,” the page states. “Toñita offers free food to unhoused Brooklynites every week, stages incredible cultural events, and creates a safe, welcoming space for generations of Latin@s and allies.”

Toñita’s is such an iconic culture spot that Bad Bunny has been seen visiting the space – and even shouts it out in his song about New York.

The funds will be administered by La Gesta Inc., which is helping Toñita organize the upcoming event. “Let’s come together to make this festival as iconic as the woman who inspired it,” the page reads. “Join us. Donate. Share. Celebrate. Let’s honor Toñita the way she’s honored us for decades — with heart, unity, and joy.”

Toñita Fest is taking place in Brooklyn, NY, on June 22. The festivities will be celebrated from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, follow their social media.
