Karol G Announces Upcoming Album ‘TROPICOQUETA’ – Here’s What We Know

Update 6/10: It’s official – we’ll have a new Karol G album this summer! Earlier today (June 10), the Colombian pop star revealed that her fifth album, TROPICOQUETA, will be out on June 20. She also seemingly revealed the album’s cover art.
“This album is soul, is passion, memory, is nostalgia, is joy, is party, is identity 🥹,” she wrote online in Spanish. “As a great friend said, ‘It is a Love letter to what we were and a manifesto of what we are now’. It is my best way of saying : I am from here AND I FEEL INFINITELY PROUD !!!!”
With the announcement post, she unveiled that she’s been working on the new album since August 2023. She also says that it’s inspired by her authentic self and traveling all over the world with her last album, Mañana Será Bonito.

Karol G is ready for her new era. On June 9, the Colombian pop star revealed the name of her upcoming fifth album: TROPICOQUETA.
“POR Fin les dejo Saber estoOOO 🥹 Se me sale el CorazóOOOn!!!!!!!!!!! Mi nuevo Álbum TROPICOQUETA 🧡🪇🪘✨ MUY Pronto!!!!!! [FINALLY I let you know thisSSS 🥹 My heart is bursting!!!!!!!!!!! My new Album TROPICOQUETA 🧡🪇🪘✨ VERY SOON!!!!!!]” Karol announced online earlier today.
The video announcement features Karol in a bedazzled orange showgirl outfit with a feather headpiece à la Carmen Miranda. She sings, “Donde está la gente de esta fiesta / Que vino pa bailar, no para una siesta / A ver los que están en esta esquina / No quiero a nadie calentándome la silla,” as she dances with festive mini bongos around her waist to the rhythmic beat. Her bra also features handles, seemingly looking like maracas. She ends the video with a theatrical pose, with applause in the background. She then unveils her upcoming album’s name in orange lights: TROPICOQUETA.
Though it isn’t confirmed, this isn’t the first time Karol has hinted at a possible showgirl-inspired album. Last month (May 22), the Colombian star wore a vintage green bikini that was once owned by iconic Mexican showgirl Rossy Mendoza in her new video “LATINA FOREVA.” This track also marks the album’s first single. With this in mind, will her next album be a homage to showgirl Latinas?
Moreover, we also know that Karol’s been working on a new album since 2023. “I’ve been working on my new album since the middle of last year,” Karol G said in an interview with Vogue España last June. “Although I was already promoting Mañana Será Bonito, in June 2023, I had the first idea to start expressing things in my songs and, this year, since January 2, after spending New Year’s Eve with my family in Colombia, I went to Los Angeles and started working day after day in the studio.”
