WATCH: Diego Luna Delivers Powerful Monologue on Importance of Immigrants While Hosting Jimmy Kimmel

ABC
Diego Luna kicked off his guest-hosting duties on Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a bang. The Mexican actor delivered not just jokes, but a monologue on immigration that made the audience in the room stand up and clap multiple times. Luna is set to guest-host the show all week, ending on Friday, June 27.
“With everything going on in this country around immigration and the authoritarian policies of Donald Trump,” Luna said at the beginning of the monologue, “it is no small thing that a Mexican is hosting such an important show.” He also spoke about his love for Los Angeles and about the many immigrant stories that have made the city what it is.
“I have never been able to fully understand how it is that someone like Donald Trump is able to acquire this level of power,” Luna also said. “I also struggle to understand how his hate speech can take root in a country whose nature has always been a welcoming one.”
The actor also spoke about the fact that in 2022, undocumented immigrants contributed an estimated $96.7 billion in taxes, as he made a plea for people to make immigrants’ struggles their own.

“There are a lot of lies flying around about immigrants, but I’m sure you have more than one story that can attest to the contrary. Talk about it. Share it. That helps,” he said. Luna also shared practical steps people could take, including calling their representatives and supporting organizations like Public Counsel and Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), which support immigrant families.
On his first guest-host night on Monday (June 23), Luna welcomed Patton Oswalt and Andor co-star Adria Arjona. Another of his co-stars, Alan Tudyk, is set for Tuesday (June 24). The guest list for the remainder of the week includes actors David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Ariela Barer, and Emma Stone.
