Damiano David gave his Colombian fans a special performance. On Nov. 13, the Måneskin vocalist covered Shakira and Alejandro Sanz’s “La Tortura” during his stop at the Teatro Royal Center in Bogotá, Colombia.

David performed his version of the massive collaboration that is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. His cover featured synths, drums, an acoustic guitar, and an electric guitar, giving “La Tortura” an alternative rock flair. Fans sang every word of the popular song, serving as the band’s backup singers. But this isn’t the only cover he sang last night. The Italian singer also performed Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” and Mark Ronson’s “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart” before he surprisingly covered one of the most popular hits from the mid 2000s by Shakira and Sanz.

Social media users are praising the cover. An X user wrote: “I didn’t expect to see Damiano doing a more intense version of Shakira and Alejandro Sanz’s la tortura today, but here we are.” Another social media user commented: “Oh my God, Damiano David singing Shakira’s La Tortura, I’m the happiest woman alive. 😍.”

Other X users are already asking the Colombian pop star for a remake of “La Tortura” featuring David. They wrote: “@shakira A new version of La tortura with Damian David wouldn’t be bad, just like we have Hips Don’t Lie with Ed Sheeran.”

The cover isn’t too far-fetched, since the Måneskin singer has shared his love for Shakira before. In 2023, he posted a video of the “TQG” singer playing the guitar with the caption on Instagram story: “@shakira we would love having a second guitarist.”

Up next, David will continue his solo world tour in Mexico City before bringing it to the U.S. Will he cover a popular Mexican song, such as a classic by Juan Gabriel or maybe Maná? In 2023, his band covered Peso Pluma and Eslabon Armado’s “Ella Baila Sola.” We’ll keep an eye out for what he covers next.
