Mario Ybarra Jr. – Double Feature – Honor Fraser

There’s nothing better than a double feature for film lovers, so art and pop culture fiends will get a treat with Mario Ybarra Jr’s “Double Feature.” The show combines two installations centering around the idea of popular culture, Ybarra’s background and artistic themes. In “Universal Monsters,” the artist takes a look in the mirror at Universal Studios’ ‘20s and ‘60s flicks to create fascinating self-portraits. Speaking of a man in a mirror, Ybarra also screens Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” alongside “An American Werewolf in London.” Then you can pay homage to “Scarface” in “Scarface Museum,” a collection of objects related to the film. Artist Conversation – Liz Glynn, Mark Hagen and Ruben Ochoa – LACMA

Taking inspiration from Gabriel Orozco’s sculpture “Lost Line,” LACMA’s “Lost Line: Contemporary Art from the Collection” brings together a wide range of artists working in everything from film to photography. Sunday, January 13 at 2 p.m., three of these artists come together to chat about the show. Liz Glynn, Mark Hagen and Ruben Ochoa meet Art Center College of Art and Design professor Jane McFadden to discuss the show which opened in November and closes February 24. As the recipient of many awards, Ochoa has shown work all around the world and continues to create. Head to the free talk to hear more – no reservations required.
