The 2026 Oscar nominations are here with some history making moments but also plenty of surprises when it comes to who didn’t receive a nomination, like Latinas, who didn’t receive a single nomination in the major acting categories.
When it comes to acting only two Latinos received nominations for Acting. Wagner Moura made history as the first Brazilian man to be nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role category for his role in The Secret Agent. He is now the third Brazilian performer to get a nomination, after Fernanda Montenegro and her daughter, Fernanda Torres.
The only other acting nomination comes in the form of Benicio del Toro. He was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for One Battle After Another. This is his third Oscar nomination, his previous two being for 21 Grams and Traffic. He won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for the latter.
Frankenstein also received nominations in 9 categories. Jacob Elordi was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting. And the movie itself was nominated for Cinematography, Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Best Picture, Production Design, Sound, and Writing (Adapted Screenplay). What is a surprise is that Guillermo del Toro didn’t receive a nomination for Best Director and Oscar Isaac didn’t receive a nomination for Best Actor.
On The Secret Agent side of things we also saw the film getting nominations for Casting, International Feature Film, and Best Picture.
No Latinas were nominated for major acting categories at the 2026 Oscars, including Tessa Thompson, who was seen as a favorite for her role in Hedda.
It’s also important to note that there are other Latines you might not know about that got nominated, including some Latinas.
Adrian Molina received an nomination for Animated Feature Film for Elio. Nidia Santiago also received a nomination for her work in Little Amélie or the Character of Rain. Yvett Merino received a nomination for her work on Zootopia 2. Adolpho Veloso received a Cinematography nomination for his work in Train Dreams.
And the list goes on as Craid Renaud and Juan Arredondo received a nomination for Documentary Short Film for Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud. Felipe Pacheco received a nonination for Sound for Sinners. And José Antonio García received a nomination for Sound for his work in One Battle After Another.
The 98th Oscars will air on ABC and stream live on Hulu on Sunday, March 15th at 7p.m. ET/4PT.
