Marcos Ramírez Erre – Luis de Jesus
Taking his name after that one letter letter of the alfabeto, Mexican-born, self-taught artist Marcos Ramírez Erre creates works that combine wordplay and his own brand of humor. Playing (Series) Serious place these words in his own made-up crosswords, word searches and more so have to look closely to fish out a meaning. The pieces challenge ideas about language, the everyday and what it means to view a piece of art through the familiar set-ups of popular brainteasers. Decide for yourself what lessons you might take away at the opening reception Saturday, April 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Just remember – you can’t touch the art so if you find a word, keep it marked in your brain.

Photography Panel Discussion – MOLAA
Nowadays, it’s easy to take photos of everything and then share them on our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter y saber que mas. But what are the photos that will be left behind for generations later to see us? One answer might be the work of skilled photographers today taking photos of what it means to be a Latino in modern times. LATINO/US Cotidiano, a book and traveling exhibition, gathers the work of twelve photographers who capture Latino faces here in the U.S. Head to the Museum of Latin America Art’s screening room for an in-depth discussion of the work featuring Head of the Cultural Office and Embassy of Spain Join Guillermo Corral, LATINO/US Cotidiano curator and Ricardo Cases, one of the participating photographers on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m; it might open your eyes to a thing or two.
En Foco/In Focus: Selected Works From The Permanent Collection – Venice Arts Gallery
April is here. Time to start taking out your shorts and chanclas but also your… camera? That’s what the folks at MOPLA suggests as they kick off the Month of Photography Los Angeles for the fourth year in a row. Among the many programs coming up, you can check out En Foco/In Focus, a traveling exhibition with 48 artists involved in the non-profit of the same name. The organization focuses on supporting a diverse group of talented artists so expect to see a number of photographers from Latin America. The show will also include film and multimedia works so you don’t want to miss out. Head to the Venice Arts Gallery from 7 to 10 p.m. for the opening reception or catch the show before it leaves May 5th. April is the month for pro photographers or budding shutterbugs to get that camera out and make some art.
