Fútbol is in mourning. CD Tenerife has confirmed that Jesús de Miguel Alameda, a forward for the club, died of cardiac arrest after an on-field collision. He was 30 years old.

The Spanish second-division match was in stoppage time when Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono stepped out of his goal area to clear the ball and collided with de Miguel, who collapsed to the ground. Owono was sent off immediately, and play was halted once everyone on the pitch realized how serious the injury was. Spanish media reported that CPR was administered and that de Miguel began breathing again in the ambulance.

During the night, however, his condition deteriorated, and the team announced this morning (November 3) that he had passed away. “Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats, and unable to believe this is true, CD Tenerife announces the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda, which occurred this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.,” the club said.

The match was abandoned after de Miguel was taken off the field.

“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this profound sense of sorrow. We stand with his devastated family, his loved ones, and the entire tinerfeñismo community, who today mourn this cruel outcome,” the club’s statement continued.

CD Tenerife president Felipe Miñambres said: “We are all going through very difficult moments now, of sadness and of not believing what happened. But we’ll go through the mourning all together, and we’ll be with all the people going through this feeling that should make us be more together.”

Spain’s soccer federation announced that all Copa del Rey games scheduled for Tuesday had been suspended. UEFA also announced that all of its matches this week, including Champions League fixtures featuring Spanish clubs Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Villarreal, Real Madrid, and Betis, would hold moments of silence in de Miguel’s memory.
