Your Mix Fix: G-Flux

DJ: G-Flux
MIXTAPE: Nuevo Romantico
For a while now we’ve been talking about the revival of bolero but I haven’t posted any mixtape dedicated to the genre yet. Mexican ñu-cumbia pioneer G-Flux took a drastic shift in his career direction and put together this short set with the explicit intention of promoting one new song he produced. The song, Acapulco Sunset, will be included in the soundtrack of an upcoming Mexican indie movie with the same name and features Puerto Rican singer Chet Samuel on vocals.
Nuevo Romántico (not to be confused with the early 80’s, UK-based new romantic scene) is an appropriate name for the mixtape featuring tracks by the likes of Bio Ritmo, Los Hacheros, La Mecánica Popular and others. Bolero, with its ultra corny lyrics and slow-tempo, soulful groove is, after all, is the most romantic music genre to ever come out of Latin America and these are great representatives of its newest incarnation.
