It’s been about a year and a half since Brooklyn via Bogota band Il Abanico changed their name to Salt Cathedral (an homage to the mysterious underground salt mine cathedral in Colombia) and dropped their first self-titled EP, full of experimental, electro-pop gems. With the surprise release of their newest single, “Tease,” Salt Cathedral has come back more sonically diverse than ever.
‘Tease” is a glimmering track with contrasting chants and chimes, reminiscent of SBTRKT, with Juliana Ronderos’ airy vocals binding all of the elements together. Beginning with a lullaby-like intro and crescendoing into the glitchy chorus and bridge, the track is a much more forward and nuanced attack to a dance record than we’ve heard from them previously.
