This year’s Sounds of Spain Showcase at SXSW in Austin brings some of La Madre Patria’s most exciting artists: rock legends Los Planetas, edgy pop maestros Amaral, fusionista Huecco, nuevo emo punks Tom Cary, Anglophiles The Unfinished Sympathy and shoegazers Nudozurdo. All artists will perform on March 17 and 18th, at Encore Patio, and this of course, this being Spain…sangria, paella, gazpacho will be served.

Amaral

One of Spain’s most successful groups but virtually unknown here, Amaral has a 10-year trajectory and  recently released a live album, La Barrera del Sonido. Eva Amaral and Juan Aguirre are originally from Zaragoza and have opened for Bob Dylan on tour twice through Spain and have collaborated with Moby in one of their albums.

Huecco

Think of Huecco as a cross between Jarabe de Palo and Manu Chao. The music fusionist defines his sound as “rumbia,” a mix of rumba, rock and cumbia.

Nudozurdo

The members of this indie foursome met in 2001 while they were working at a 24-hour tarot channel. Nudozurdo will bring their atmospheric rock and hypnotic sounds to SXSW.
