Shakira is the newest ambassador for Burberry, a British luxury fashion house. In fact, she’s the face of the company’s latest holiday campaign, which includes a short film called The Night Before, that features herself and Burna Boy.
“I’m honestly so thrilled about it – it’s the first time I’ve done a fashion campaign like this and Burberry is such an iconic brand,” Shakira told British Vogue. “To me, Burberry is elegance personified, and timeless – fashion is such an ever-changing world, always evolving. Burberry manages to evolve with the time but always keeps its distinctive, classy style.”
As a model for the campaign, Shakira is seen wearing a sheer beige gown in her photos. The gown is covered in diamonds that have been added to the outfit in a series of leaf shapes. There is also text across the gown, including the brand name and the year Burberry was founded, 1856. Shakira is also carrying the evening edition of Burberry’s silver Lola Bag.
In the short film The Night Before, which can be seen in its entirety at burberry.com, Shakira walks across a room wearing her sheer gown while objects like a book, candleholder, and violin float by her. Suddenly, the silver Lola Bag flies through the window and lands in Shakira’s hand. Then, a ring with the word “Love” designed in diamonds drops around her pinky finger.
Later, dressed in a beige skirt, off-white bodice, and a pair of knee-high plaid boots, Shakira takes a catwalk across a line of circular tables that seem to be set for a meal. With a quick spin, her top transforms into a ruffled, plaid blouse, while a plaid purse replaces the Lola Bag in her hand. With more movie magic, Shakira is also covered in a long, beige coat to complete the look.
“I loved the blouse I’m wearing so much I asked to keep it,” Shakira said. “And the evening gown, it goes without saying, was truly a work of art.”
