Kendrick Lamar delivered an epic Super Bowl halftime show last night (February 9), featuring expert choreography and a debut halftime show performance by SZA. No detail in the symbolic performance was left untouched, most notably the wardrobe worn by the dancers and performers, including SZA’s monochromatic look. It was styled by Argentinian Peruvian American stylist, Alejandra LaPilusa.
SZA appeared on stage to perform “Luther” and “All the Stars” in a leather ensemble that included custom low-rise, lace-up pants by Ashton Michael, a lacy distressed top by Kate Broadrick, and a custom Born X Raised work shirt with “CRYBABY” emblazoned on the back and “Lana” (the name of SZA’s newest album) on the front. The look was topped off with red Converse sneakers and a furry red belt, along with SZA’s long red hair to complete the uniform look.
LaPilusa’s pride in styling SZA for a major cultural moment is palpable. On Instagram, the stylist shared an up-close video of SZA’s performance, and in the caption stated “I’m still processing the magnitude of tonight’s experience on the biggest stage in our country’s culture. But one thing is certain – I’m beaming with pride. Proud of @sza, our team, our work and tour family, and my own team of unsung heroes. Proud to represent LA.”
She continued with, “Today my sister texted me to remind me that I’m her biggest inspiration and how proud she is of me. A daughter of two immigrants, who grew up in a big ass city, that worked hard on her own with no family power money or connections made it to the EFFING SUPERBOWL !!! I know I’m just a stylist, but I hope I really just made some little first generation Latina girls with big fashion dreams proud today ♥️😭”

The dancers were also styled by LaPilusa. They wore red, white, and blue workwear sets designed by BornXRaised, an LA-based company founded by the late designer, Spanto. The workwear sets worn by the dancers included an oversized workwear shirt and pants, and a laced-up football bra.
LaPilusa regularly styles SZA, shaping her looks from press tours to standout moments, most notably for her recent album “LANA.” SZA regularly credits LaPilusa in her fits, showing appreciation for her craft.
