- Donald Trump has left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and returned to the White House, despite medical and political risks. He continued to downplay the severity of the virus in a taped message to the public, referring to Covid-19 and saying that people should “not let it dominate your life.” [NYT]
- The White House has blocked Food and Drug Administration guidelines that would have prevented bringing potential coronavirus vaccines to market before the election, as Trump has promised. The FDA had instructed vaccine developers to follow patients enrolled in their trials for at least two months to get closer look safety issues before approving the vaccine; the White House has said there is “no clinical or medical reason” for such an additional requirement. - Michelle Obama urged Americans to support the Biden campaign in a video statement this week, telling them, “Search your hearts, and your conscience, and then vote for Joe Biden like your lives depend on it.” She pointed out Trump’s “incompetence” in his pandemic response and his strategy of stoking fear and racial divisiveness. - After saying it would halt a migrant caravan from Honduras because of COVID-19 concerns, Guatemalan authorities stopped more than 3,000 migrants who had intended to head to the United States. [AP]
