Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador – the former Head of Government of the Federal District and two-time presidential candidate – blasted Enrique Peña Nieto for his self-celebratory statements after the recapture of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, especially because his government has failed to find the missing 43 from an Ayotzinpa teachers college.

“They have recaptured El Chapo, but they have not been able to locate the Ayotzinapa students,” he said, according to teleSUR. “They can detain El Chapo, but they are not capable, they are useless, when it comes to finding 43 missing Ayotzinapa students.”

AMLO went as far as saying that apprehending El Chapo – the world’s most wanted drug lord – was not impressive, because it doesn’t do anything to curb the inescapable corruption that exists in Mexico. And then he really went in on EPN and company, who he describes as the real threats.

“Which is the cartel that steals the most?” he said. “The Los Pinos cartel, which is led by Peña Nieto… What is really important is that the Los Pinos cartel stop robbing. Each year, corrupt politicians steal over $500 billion pesos ($30B US) and only those who don’t have money to buy their innocence or who no longer serves a purpose are persecuted and punished.”
