Argentina is grappling with an attempted assassination against Argentinian Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. A video of the assassination attempt has gone viral on social media showing the precise moment when a gun is thrust into the vice president’s face.

Vice President Fernández de Kirchner was exiting her vehicle outside of her home in Buenos Aires with an enthusiastic crowd greeting her. As she makes her way to the car, a handgun is seen coming out of the crowd, inches from her face. The sound of the trigger being pulled can be heard over the crowd.

Visibly shaken, Vice President Fernández de Kirchner buckles as the crowd and her security team react and detain the man who attempted to kill her.

Argentinian President Alberto Fernández, no relation, condemned the attack of Vice President Cristina Fernández and said it was “the most serious incident since we recovered democracy” since the military dictatorship that fell in 1983.

A Brazilian national, Fernando André Sabag Montiel, has been identified as the alleged gunman. The handgun was loaded with five bullets but misfired when the would-be assassin pulled the trigger. Authorities say he tried to use a .32 caliber Bersa to kill the vice president.
