Bomba Estereo to Replace Bebe at LAMC

The musical chairs at this year’s LAMC continues. Spanish singer Bebe, who we were really excited to see perform live, just canceled her appearance at tomorrow’s SummerStage with Calle 13 and Cypress Hill’s Eric Bobo. The reason given by publicist was “denied visa.”

Instead, Colombian sensation Bomba Estereo, who are doing a marathon of shows this week as they promote the release of their album Blow Up on Nacional Records, will be performing.

Singer Li Saumet remembered us from South By Southwest (SXSW) earlier this year. “Me entrevistaron borracha!!!!” she told us half laughing, half pissed. Yes, that’s right, and we loved it. Here are our interviews from the Austin festival this past March. You’ll love Bomba Estereo tomorrow!!!  (Above: Photo of Li at last night’s showcase at Bowery Ballroom by Stephanie Hartka.)

This is what we said when we saw Bomba Estereo perform at SXSW:

They blew our minds with a fresh cumbia/hip-hop blend with a full band and fierce front-woman Li.

We caught up with Li outside the Speakeasy club after she performed, and even bumped into our friend Monica Rodriguez from NYC-based band Zigmat, and the two of them went off about the similiarities between Colombia and Puerto Rico (patacones vs tostones? same thing!)

Check out Li as she talks to us about her hip hop and cumbia influeces:

Li talks about her style and about champeta music

Monica from Zigmat and Li just….go off about lo que sea. (it was 2am people!)
