As we reported yesterday, La Casa Azul Bookstore has a location, will open in five months, and will be collecting used books to sell when they finally do. We’ve been following the story of La Casa Azul since their 40K in 40 Days Campaign was the first real installment of our Ca$hflow column a ways back. Now that founder Aurora Anaya-Cerda has reached her funding goals and is making her dreams of creating a bookstore in El Barrio come true, we thought we’d complete our mission and help her collect used books. Here are the guidelines, in Anaya-Cerda’s own words:

What books will La Casa Azul Bookstore carry?

We will carry many different types of books (poetry, general fiction, history, biography, cooking, children’s and more) BUT we specialize in writing by and about Latino culture. (Sorry, no Nicholas Sparks.)

Books that are in great condition and meet the requirements will receive store credit towards the purchase of other books at La Casa Azul Bookstore.

Books we cannot accept:

  • Books that are damaged or missing covers.
  • Books with writing, highlighting, or other markings.
  • Hardcover books that are missing their dust jackets.
  • Former library books (cellophane jacket wrapping or dewey decimal stickers).
  • Magazines, catalogs, encyclopedias, textbooks, computer/software manuals or travel books.
  • And here’s where we come in – Aurora will be in the store this Sunday accepting books from 12-5, but since we know there are a ton of people who would just love to donate but might find it difficult to make the trip all the way Uptown, we at Remezcla will be accepting books in the lobby of our office from 9-5 tomorrow. That’s

85 North 3rd Street (Between Berry and Wythe, closer to Wythe.)

What’s more, when La Casa Azul opens up its March efforts, we’ll be there with more details.

If you can’t make it tomorrow, head over to the store itself at:
