When Diego Luna uttered the words “I’ve been in this fight since I was 6 years old” in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it became obvious that his character Cassian Andor had plenty of experience with the galactic conflict. Though the movie didn’t dedicate enough time to Andor’s backstory – and with good reason, since Rogue One revolved around Jyn Erso – Marvel’s now going to explore one of the most interesting aspects of Andor’s life: his friendship with K-2SO.
K-2SO – Andor’s unfiltered, reprogrammed droid sidekick – provides the comic relief in an otherwise pretty serious movie. We learn that K-2SO used to work for the baddies and that Andor has reprogrammed him, but we don’t know enough about their history. Unfortunately, their friendship won’t be on the big screen in the form of a buddy comedy, but their story will come to life in a comic book titled Rogue One: Cassian & K-2SO, according to io9.
Writer Duane Swierczynski and artist Fernando Blanco will bring the comic to life. The comic won’t be a series, but a one-off story. We may not get more of Luna in the Star Wars cinematic universe, but just like the Cassian Andor doll, the comic will feature Luna’s likeness.
Rogue One: Cassian & K-2SO is set for an August release.
