Nothing excites me more than the idea that the Summerstage 2014 lineup has already been announced because that means that summer is NIGH. SummerStage is New York’s largest free performing arts festival, bringing over 100 free performances to 14 parks throughout the five boroughs. The beauty in SummerStage is that they bring together fans from a huge musical landscape, which highly reflect NYC’s incredible diversity- everything from American pop, hip-hop, world music, indie rock and beyond.
This year, SummerStage is teaming up with Fania to pay tribute to the 50th Anniversary of the iconic label. Musicians from Fania Records‘ past and present will take the stage across all of the NYC boroughs and highlight the neighborhoods where the movements were born! Some of the legends performing include Roberto Roena, Joe Bataan and Ismael Miranda, which lead the way for the modern movement of Fania Records, including the hip-hop fusion of Ana Tijoux (July 9) and one of our favorites, psychedelic salsa group La Mecánica Popular(June 14). The Fania All Stars will close out the entire Central Park Summerstage season on August 24 in a sure to be iconic show.
Lest we forget, LAMC will be bringing some hot shows by Babasónicos, Juana Molina, La Santa Cecilia, Bodega Bamz and more. Buika will also make an appearance and so will Sisqó and I need to stop because we can go on forever!
