It looks like the President-elect of Chile, Gabriel Boric, is a fan of Taylor Swift.

The left-wing politician recently showed his support for the musician on social media after the “Back to December” singer was accused of not writing her own songs by Damon Albarn, the English singer of the rock band Blur. Basically, Boric told Swift to just “shake it off.”

“Here in Chile, you have a huge group of supporters who knows that you write your own songs from the heart,” Boric tweeted. “Don’t take seriously guys that need to insult or lie to get attention. Hugs from the south Taylor.”

This past December, Boric won Chile’s presidential election and will become the country’s youngest president at 35 years of age when he takes office in March.

During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Albarn responded to the journalist’s comment about Swift being “an excellent songwriter” by saying, “She doesn’t write her own songs.” He continued, “I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes.”

Swift responded to Albarn via Twitter by calling his “hot take” “completely false and SO damaging.”

“I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this,” Swift wrote to Albarn. “I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f—ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

Albarn attempted to apologize but tried to make it seem like his comments were taken out of context. They weren’t.

“I totally agree with you,” Albarn wrote. “I had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait. I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand.”

It’s probably safe to assume Swift and Albarn won’t be collaborating with one another anytime soon.
