Cristela Alonzo has officially been named as the new host of the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot.
The Mexican-American comedian shared the first-ever teaser trailer in an Instagram post on Tuesday night.
Earlier in the week, she posted her enthusiasm for her new gig. “To say I’m VERY excited to host #LegendsOfTheHiddenTemple would be an understatement. Who gets the chance to host a show they grew up watching? This show is SO much fun,” Alonzo wrote on her social media.
The CW is reimagining the beloved Nickelodeon show that ran in the ’90s with a couple of notable changes. First, adults will be the ones competing instead of children in the game show. And secondly, Legends of the Temple will take place in a “mysterious jungle” in lieu of a set in a studio lot. However, original pillars of the show, such as the “Moat Crossings,” “The Steps of Knowledge,” and the “Temple Run,” will still be in place for fans of the original program.
“Having grown up on 90’s pop culture and actually being a fan of the original Legends of the Hidden Temple, I am thrilled to be hosting the new updated version of the show. The biggest challenge for me on this show will be trying to simultaneously host it and contain my geeked-out excitement at the same time,” she said in a statement to Deadline.
Alonzo is best known for making television history with her ground-breaking show Cristela. She was the first Latina to create, produce, write, and star in her primetime comedy in the United States. With the voice-over work as ‘Cruz Ramirez’ in Cars 3, she became the first Latina to star in a Pixar movie. In 2019 she recently released her memoir, Music to My Years: A Mixtape Memoir. Currently, Cristela is touring the country with her standup comedy, and she also has a podcast called To Be Continued.
As for Legends of the Temple, it premieres on the CW on Sunday, October 10.
