While her touching online tribute to her late grandmother touched the hearts of many of her fans last month, actress and singer Danna Paola wanted to do more to honor her abuela.

So, she paid a visit to Fine Line Tattoo in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, where tattoo artist Alex Gómez gave Paola something she could look at and always remember how much she loved the woman she called “Chelo.”

One of the tattoos she chose includes the year that her grandmother was born, 1935, and the words “Ser de Luz.” The other features a hand delicately holding a crescent moon.

“It has not been easy, and I miss you,” Paola wrote on social media. “I remember you every day, but I know you are flying in a better place. Thanks [for taking] care of me so much. I always carry you in me.”

Paola also explained why she chose to mark herself with the symbol of a moon. “I have always had a very heavy connection with the moon, it is like my energetic mother in the universe, my confidante, my counselor, and the witness of all my wishes.”

She also thanked Gómez “for capturing your art on my skin and for your beautiful vibe.”

When Paola’s grandmother died in early March, she posted a series of photos. One photo in black and white featured Paola kissing her abuelita’s forehead. Another was a portrait of her grandmother smiling and holding a Yorkshire Terrier.

“I celebrate your life so much, the great woman, mother, and grandmother you were, the pillar of our family,” Danna Paola wrote at the time. “It hurts my soul to say goodbye, but today, thanks to you, I learned so much about life.”
