Puerto Rico has not yet recovered from Hurricane María, but as another hurricane season begins, the island is once again in danger of being hit by a storm. Ahead of Tropical Storm Dorian’s expected arrival, Puerto Rico has declared a state of emergency and people have been busy making preparation.

“We’re scared,” said San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz. “We know what may be coming.”

The Puerto Rican and federal governments didn’t handle Hurricane María in the best way, which resulted in the deaths of about 3,000. President Donald Trump, in particular, showed little sensitivity when visiting the island and has spread misinformation ever since. The storm comes at a time when the Trump administration plans to pull $271 million in funding from the Department of Homeland Security, which includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Relief Fund, so that it can detain more immigrants.
